Making of the NYMVAE Quilt - Part 1
Many years ago, NYMVAE received a generous donation of fabrics. These fabrics have been used to create some of NYMVAE's most memorable costumes and sets.
Juli and I have sewn quite a few of those costumes. For the last benefit, we decided to try our hands at making a quilt using smaller pieces of the fabrics. Using the log cabin pattern, a small baby quilt was completed and now warms a little's bed of a frequent NYMVAE performer.
Using the same log cabin quilt, and more fabric from the NYMVAE collection, we have set our sites on a larger quilt.
A few interesting statistics:
- The quilt is made up of 35 blocks
- Each block is made up of 19 strips of fabric
- That makes a total of 665 strips of fabric in this quilt... which is a lot of cutting!

It has taken us nearly 5 hours to cut out all the strips and group the fabrics together for each block. We celebrated the evening with some well deserved chocolate chip cookies!
We'll keep you updated on the progress of the quilt, so check back!
